HUNDREDS EVACUATED AS NORTH CALIFORNIA WILD FIRE INTESIFIES

NorCal wildfire forces hundreds to evacuate homes

DAVENPORT, Calif. — A Northern California wildfire has forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

State fire officials say the blaze started shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday. It has grown to about 2,300 acres, or 3.6 square miles, and is at zero containment.

Officials have ordered mandatory evacuations for about 600 people in the Bonny Doon area, about eight miles north of Santa Cruz.

About 750 firefighters are battling the blaze, which threatens about 250 structures.

A shelter for evacuees has been set up in Santa Cruz.

Further down the coast, officials say a 46-square-mile blaze on the edge of the Los Padres National Forest in northern Santa Barbara County was about 10 percent contained Thursday morning.
